Bell Ringing
New readers begin here: In the Upper Wylye Valley there are five church towers with ringable bells - Codford St Peter, Heytesbury, Sutton Veny, Norton Bavant and Boyton. The latter two have 5 bells, the rest 6. The band of cheerful ringers is based at Codford but we frequently travel to the other towers to ring for practices, Sunday services and weddings. And we certainly have fun; between sessions the dominant sound is laughter.
We're always looking for newcomers to train in the basic skills. We practice on Tuesday evenings starting at 6.00pm at Codford St Peter. Do come and join us. If you're interested please ring 850724 (Nick) or 851079 (Anthony).
________________________________________________
The Upper Wylye valley has some wonderful bells and they are always looking for people to join their friendly band of ringers.
They tend to practise on a Wednesday for an hour from 6 pm, usually 1st Wed - Heytesbury, 2nd - Sutton Veny 3rd - Codford St Peter and 4th - Longbridge Deverill
If there is a 5th Wed we may ring at Boyton, but only from Spring to Autumn. But these days are not set in stone and frequently change to fit around a PCC meeting or some other event in the church. Additionally, practices tend to be run by either Andrew Howes from Wylye or myself Nick Claypoole, and if neither of us are available we usually cancel.
Visitors tend to check whether there is ringing with the tower correspondents.
Each tower has a point of contact - known as the tower correspondent - as follows:
St Peter, Codford - Nick Claypoole 850724
Blessed Mary of Boyton - Nick Claypoole 850724
St Peter and Paul, Heytesbury - Joe Charlesworth 840184
St John, Sutton Veny -Annabel Elliott 841267
All Saints, Norton Bavant - John Acworth 01985 840134 jcacworth@gmail.com
St Peter and Paul, Longbridge Deverill - Richard Munro.
Even the Rector has had a go!!!!
