What We Believe
Christians are followers of Jesus Christ. We believe that God has been fully revealed to the world in Christ, His life, His death and His resurrection. St John’s Gospel opens with those well-known words telling us of God becoming flesh and living amongst us. And although Christ died on the cross, this is not the end for death was defeated through His resurrection, the darkness did not overcome the light of Christ; “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him, not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it” (John 1:1-5).
God raising Jesus from the dead is a sign of hope and forgiveness for all. Christ died so that we might live, that we may be freed from our sins to live in a perfect relationship with God as again we read in John’s Gospel “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life” (John 3:16)
We believe that Christ sits at the right hand of God the Father and that He is the living Head of the Church praying ceaselessly for all His people, as St Paul writes in his letter to the Romans “It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us” (Romans 8:34)
Christianity is the faith of Christians. It is a living relationship with God, a covenant we are baptised into, revealed through the words of the Bible and the witness of Christians over 2,000 years.
Every Sunday we declare our faith in the words of either the Apostle’s or Nicene Creed. From the very beginning, Christians developed short and simple summaries of faith that became known as Creeds from the Latin word ‘credo’, which means ‘I believe and trust’.
